World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated every year on September 8.
Background
It was established in 1996 by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), now called World Physiotherapy, to honor the profession and recognize the important role that physical therapists play in keeping people healthy, mobile, and independent.
Purpose
The day is dedicated to:
- Raising awareness about the benefits of physical therapy.
- Highlighting how physiotherapists help improve quality of life through movement, rehabilitation, and prevention of injury or disease.
- Promoting global health initiatives that emphasize mobility and independence.
2025 Theme
Each year, World Physiotherapy selects a theme. For 2025, the theme is “Movement for Mental Health”, focusing on how physical activity and therapy support not only physical recovery but also mental well-being.
